[Also in DivisionB4] A cartridge-actuated tool comprises a barrel 4 mounted in a housing 2 and having amuzzle end attached to a guide means 8 and a sleeve 108 slidably mounted in the latterand arranged to actuate a cocking member 42 via a sensing member 70. As shown, thesensing member 70 is in contact with a flange 110 on the sleeve and with the cockingmember 42, a spring-loaded detent 38 extending from a firing pin 28 and passing througha hole 48 in the cocking member; the cocking member is retained in a slot 68 in the barrelby means of a spring ring 72. The barrel is slidable in the housing and is retained thereinby means of a screw 78, Fig. 7, engaging in a Z-shaped slot 82, 86, 84. In operation, uponpressing the end face 158 of the sleeve against a workpiece, the firing pin is cocked,thereby bringing the spring-loaded detent 38 into line with a sear 52 formed on a trigger50. When the trigger is actuated the cartridge 152 is fired and the piston 6 driven
forwardly. In the event of an overtravel of the piston, a tapered portion 92 thereon abutsa tapered surface 116 in the sleeve and the energy is absorbed by a rubber buffer 12. Inorder to eject the spent cartridge, the guide means 8 is gripped and by pulling androtating the barrel the latter is withdrawn, thereby causing an ejector (122, Fig. 8) to abut
the screw 78 and so eject the cartridge through an opening 16 in the housing.
