Reading and writing skills are needed by every child in every subject in every year of their life in or outside school. Students who improve their reading and writing skills will increase their vocabulary and their ability(能力)to use the English language correctly. As parents, you can play an important role in improving your children’s literacy(读写能力). You can make a difference by listening, asking questions, giving information, and reading with your children outside school hours.
Here are 8 tips on how to help your children to read and write: 1. Having everyday conversations with your children

I used to think Dad didn’t love me at all, because he ne ver tried to hug or kiss me. But whenever I felt sad or lonely, Dad was always there.
When I was in high school, Dad retired(退休) and set up a food stand on the street near my school. Every day when I finished school, my classmates and I would pass his food stand. But I really hated talking to Dad, because I did not want my classmates to know my dad was selling noodles on the street!
One night, I couldn’t stand it any more and shouted, “Dad, could you stop selling your stupid noodles? I don’t need a father who sells noodles on the street!” At that moment, Dad was shocked. My mum later told me Dad was selling noodles to save money for my college education. Even today I still feel guilty(内疚的)for that night.

Homework is like chores —it’s a traditional activity that most children hate to do.
Some people think practice makes perfect. Homework can help children remember what they have learnt and get better understanding of the knowledge by reading, writing, and solving math problems. And students who complete homework every day do better in tests.
They also think that homework helps children learn to take responsibility (责任) and manage their time better. Children who fail in this task finally get poor homework grades, while children that take full responsibility do much better.
However, many children find homework boring, so they don’t try as hard as needed, which in turn influences their in-class performance (表现). Teachers have tried to make homework more interesting and challenging, but it hasn’t always worked well. Studies also find that too much homework can make students stressed and they often get lower test scores. Students from countries such as Japan and Denmark usually have less homework and they score better on tests than students from countries where they have a lot of homework.
People will continue arguing about homework. There may never be a clear answer. In my opinion, though homework is boring, time wasting, and at times even makes students lose their heart, it can help students prepare for tests by practicing their lessons over and over again.
67. Some people think completing homework every day helps students ____.
A. get better scores
B. solve daily problems C. have a good memory D. become perfect people
68. According to the passage, people think students who get poor homework grades may
__________.
A. do well in managing time B. have too much stress at school C. like challenging homework D. have little sense of responsibility
69. As for homework, the writer thinks that ____.
A. students should have more time for after-class activities B. teachers shouldn’t give students too much homework C. students should have homework and it’s useful D. students will have less homework in the future 70. The best title for the passage can be ____. A. Homework or Housework B. Students and Homework C. Homework, Good or Bad?
D. Homework Influences Students’ Performance 第二卷(非选择题共60分)
